When?
Plant or repot in spring or early summer when growth starts. Outdoors, plant only where winters are dry and mild enough for the species.
Step by step
- Wear thick gloves; leaf tips and edges are sharp.
- Use a pot with a drain hole and fill with cactus mix plus extra grit or pumice.
- Set the rosette at the same depth; do not bury the leaf bases.
- Wait a week before the first watering to let damaged roots heal.
- Water deeply, then let the soil dry completely before watering again.
- Feed with a diluted cactus fertilizer once or twice in summer at most.
- Remove offsets (pups) with some root and pot them up separately.
- Trim the sharp tips if children or pets pass close by.
