When?

Usually bought in flower in autumn or winter. Repot dormant tubers in late summer as new leaves start to appear (estimated).

Step by step

  1. Place in the coolest bright room, away from radiators.
  2. Water from below: stand the pot in water for 15 minutes, then drain.
  3. Keep water off the tuber's top to prevent rot.
  4. Feed every 2–3 weeks at half strength while in bloom.
  5. Twist off faded flowers and yellow leaves right at the base.
  6. When leaves yellow in late spring, reduce water and let it rest somewhere shady.
  7. In late summer, repot with the tuber's top showing and resume watering.
